Puppies look cute. But this is not worth in real, some times. The increasing number of stray dogs in many part of Bangalore is giving sleepless nights to residents. Every night the dogs in the area get together for some old fashioned car chasing and howling, which creates a frustrating din amongst the people in the area. The major threat is for the night walkers. Pedestrians and two wheeler riders, who come home after 11 pm as they are chased mercilessly by dogs nipping at their ankles.
Dogs may be considered man's best friend but unfortunately in Bangalore dog bite incidents appear to be increasing every year.
Bangalore residence dared to rename it as the city of stray dogs, when its newspapers started reporting at least two cases of stray dog bites and deaths each day. On an average 12 people are bitten by stray dogs per MINUTE somewhere in Bangalore.
The reports shows how dangerous it goes. Dog bite reports says that kids are the main victims. The slum kids are more prone to these sorts of attacks. Also, kids enjoy playing out in the evenings or at dark are the victims.
The dogs chase night travelers, in most cases, cross frenziedly across the streets unexpected. The result is obvious, the travelers hurt and left to bleed on the road side and in some cruel cases, attacked by these ruthless packs. With their bites, men are at the risk of contracting Rabies.
What is Rabies?
Disease 'rabies' is transmitted to humans with the bite of a rabid dog. Their saliva carries the virus, which enters the human body through the wounds. The virus affects our Central Nervous System, causing the inflammation of the brain. In the early stages of this disease, the symptoms are malaise, fever and headache; while in the later stages huge pain, violent movements, uncontrolled excitements, depressions and inability to swallow water (symptom called as hydrophobia) accompanies. Coma and eventually death due to respiratory insufficiency is certain.
What should be done when a dog bite happens?
Rabies vaccine should be given to the victim of a dog bite in or near the area of the bite. India is reported having the world’s highest rate of human rabies because of stray dogs.
Why the number of stray Dogs increases?
The main reason behind such a menace is that we fail to check the increasing population of stray dogs. The city municipalities have there after successfully captured many stray dogs with the help of expect trained dog catchers from Kerala, but were criticized for their treatment and killing of the captive dogs by animal rights activists.
How to tackle?
> There are also centers for pet adoption. We need to set up such welfare organizations and adoption centers for dogs in India too like foreign countries.
> We need to sterilize and vaccinate these stray dogs to counter-check their increasing number and to prevent the spread of rabies.
> The dog owners should be made to obtain license and regularly immunize their pets.
> Usually dog menace happens in the areas where there are street meat and fish markets and hotels. To discard or litter the waste along the road sides should be penalized and the door to door collection of food wastes by the municipal authorities should be encouraged instead of the road side bins.
> Some people buy animals out of curiosity. I have seen many dogs with collar belt wandering on roads of Bangalore. It means when the owner got 'bored' off, they just kicked them out. So there should be some rule to control animal purchase.
The stray dog menace is in fact a grave problem in Bangalore as well as in India and the authorities should act immediately to tackle this issue seriously and effectively. Dogs are man’s best friends for ever, if we care for them!
Present Situation
Now a days we can not see any stray puppies around in Bangalore. It means the sterilization went well. But normal dog life span, is around 14 to 18 years. So we have to wait some more years to find the count reducing here in Bangalore.
Present Situation is so painful?
Just read an interesting comment by a reader in an article about 'dog menace and protecting street dogs' below, and see how painful it is in Bangalore?
"Will you take responsibility for the damages caused by these stray dogs? Will you pay damage to our disturbed sleeps after 8 to 10 hours of hard work? Do you treat those children, or even adults and pay compensation for whatever happened because of these stray dogs? If you agree with it then let us leave them alone. If you cannot agree with it and If you love them so much, why don't you take them all( YES!I mean, over 2-lakh dogs in Bangalore city!) to your home and keep?. just keep them with you only. Why trouble others just for the cause of your ( and other Animal activists.. Are they animals or human?) unjustified sympathy?
It is very pity that those ANIMAL ACTIVISTS value these stray dogs more than we humans. They learn their lesson only when one of their kids bitten by these stray dogs once. I am writing this because, I personally felt amused the way they behave. if they want to protect these animals, they should come out with a solution at their own cost. Instead, they trouble those poor citizens just for the sake of their principle of ANIMAL Protection. These people are like sadists, silently enjoy the trouble caused to those senior citizens, children and ladies by these dogs.
Do anyone listen to this any do some thing to fight against (NOT DOGS BUT Those junk of ANIMAL ACITVISTS!)Few month ago, I personally spoke to the chief surgeon of Bangalore who responsible for controlling dog menace in Bangalore city. He simple respond me that, they unable to get rid of those dogs from the city just because of those animal activists.
MY WORD TO THOSE ACTIVISTS, CITY IS MEANT FOR LIVING AND IT IS MEANT FOR HUMANS. IF YOU STILL WANT TO PROTECT THOSE DOGS UNTIL ITS POPULATION EXCEEDS HUMAN POPULATION IN BANGALORE, THEN FIND OUT YOUR OWN WAY TO TAKE CARE THEM. RELOCATE THEM TO SOME JUNGLE AND PROVIDE DECENT HOME AND FOOD. THAT IS THE WAY YOU SHOULD SHOW YOUR LOVE TO THESE ANIMAL> NOT BY TROUBLING THOSE CITIZENS. THAT IS WHY I CALLED YOU SADISTS.
